Girls, Girls, Girls

So if you discount Zach, who is in a league of his own my boys are pretty easy. Sure we've had a few moments like Hyrum trying to get a little girl to kiss him while he runs and hides. Caleb checking out the cute girl on the other baseball team with the pink helmet. No real drama. If you can talk baseball, trains, pirates, star wars and bionicles until your blue in the face your good. Lindsey Ann on the other hand should be renamed Lindsey Drama Ann. That girl has more drama than all the daytime soap operas put together. So I was trying to pick out her clothes for school. I wanted her to wear a Malloch(their school) shirt of her brothers because it was spirit day and the shirt is unisex, (if you care to know when I went to buy the school shirts they didn't have Lindsey's size) so I pulled out the shirt. Ya know what that girl said to me? She said," that shirt will make me look fat." What do you say to that? That girl doesn't have an ounce of fat on her. I, being the good mom that I am took a deep breath and pulled her in for a hug and said, "Oh, Honey you won't look fat, your beautiful." She piped back with "Look mom" she had a point. The shirt was way too wide for her little frame. So we tied it in a fashionable knot on the side and with her big bows in her pigtails she looked cute and didn't have anymore complaints. How can a six year old girl think she looks fat? I still am dumbfounded. A few days before that we were alone driving to ballet. She had that ballerina look going on, with her hair in a bun bangs wispy and black leotard with pink tights. I looked back at her to see her flirting with the teenage boy in the car next to us. She was making kissey lips at him. I turn around and try to stop my heart that is racing. As the light turns green I floor it to get her away from this boy. I also did a year check to make sure that I hadn't lost mind. Once I found my voice and confirmed that this girl was my 6 year old daughter. She said "I have a new boyfriend, he is a teenager, I blew him kisses, and he is SOOOOOOOOO cute". I had to chuckle and reminded her that she should save her kisses because they are special. I also asked her about Cade from class that she has been crushing on since kindergarten. She piped back "it's ok because Cade is my ex-boyfriend and he is my boyfriend now ". Heaven help me! Am I really dealing with this now? We talked about what it means to have a boyfriend. It went in one ear and out the other she said" but mom he's SOOOOOO cute I love him. Thankfully we were now at ballet. She isn't even a teenager yet and I am already concerned about buoying up her self esteem so she won't have an eating disorder, trying to keep her away from older boys and all the day to day ups and downs. The truth-tellin is this: Zach is a pain, but Lindsey will give me more gray hair and I am so thankful that I only have two girls.
